#017 – Pushing Beyond Limits: Choppy’s Endurance Journey for a Cause

My Guest:

On this episode of Speaking to Stacy, we have Ryan Pike, also known as Choppy, who is preparing for the Tankwa Crossing, a challenging endurance event that will take place on February 16, 2023. The Tankwa Crossing is a 207 km (130 miles) run through the South African wilderness. Choppy is aiming to raise funds for the Mdzananda Animal Clinic to purchase an inverter so that the clinic can continue to operate during power blackouts caused by Eskom, the local power provider.

We discuss the importance of cultivating a supportive friendship group, being intentional about personal growth, and pushing ourselves to do difficult things. Despite not being a seasoned endurance athlete, Choppy is taking on the Tankwa Crossing to challenge himself and support the Mdzananda Animal Clinic. He explains how his friendship group has helped him develop and how being intentional about self-development has allowed him to avoid the hedonic treadmill.

In addition, we explore the positive impact of participating in challenging events on Choppy’s mental and physical health. He emphasizes the importance of stepping out of our comfort zones and embracing new experiences. Join us in this episode as we learn from Choppy’s journey to the Tankwa Crossing and support his cause. Check out the Tankwa Crossing website for more information, and don’t forget to listen to the episode with endurance event veteran, Billy Richards. Share this episode with someone you care about and help spread the word about Choppy’s mission.

Mdzananda Animal Clinic, located in Cape Town, is currently experiencing power blackouts due to failures from the power provider, Eskom. An inverter would greatly assist the clinic in operating during these outages.
